The mentoring program is an opportunity for young left/progressive activists to share and learn from left/progressive
Background
InspirActivism was initiated by the SEARCH Foundation in 2006 because it was found (in the SEARCH review 2006) that there is a lack of available training for young left/progressive activists, including historical and theoretical, left/progressive perspectives. SEARCH has access to a wealth of transferable knowledge and skills in these areas, originating from its previous activities and most importantly, from its membership base.
Building solidarity between young activists and more experienced activists is a major goal within the program. Through this ongoing program, we hope to allow for veteran activists to have a role in developing the new generation of left/progressive activists.
Becoming a mentee
The program is designed for young left/progressive activists between the ages of 16 and 30 (those outside this age bracket should still feel free to apply). Applicants should be currently active on social/political/environmental issues or at least have an interest in becoming active. They should be keen to develop their campaigning skills and knowledge and to work with a mentor on becoming a more effective agent of social change.
Why should people do this?
The mentoring program is a component of InspirActivism, our youth activist training program which aims to build a stronger, more effective network of young left/progressive activists within Australia and linking them to veteran activists.
