Why do we exist ?
The United Nations Youth Association of Australia (UNYA) exists to provide young people with an opportunity to educate other young Australians about the United Nations and international issues.
In a society in which young people are not well represented, the UNYA is a significant voice for youth opinion. Moreover, UNYA plays an important educational role in Australian society, and creates outstanding young leaders as an organisation both run for, and managed exclusively by, young people.
As the world becomes more interconnected, UNYA’s role can only grow as it continues to develop future and current leaders with a global perspective.
What do we do ?
UNYA is a non-profit organisation run solely by young Australians to educate Australian Youth about the United Nations and international affairs.
What opportunities do we have for young people ?
In every state and territory in Australia, UNYA offers young people the opportunity to participate in and organise Model United Nations programmes, conferences, policy development and educational materials.
In 1999, UNYA has successfully lobbied for the creation of an annual Australian Youth Representative on Australia’s Delegation to the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Since 1999, UNYA and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have coordinated the selection of a Youth Representative each year.
