So this was my vision......
Since then I have honed it down a bit to make it more achievable
ok... One day I would like to see the cycle of abuse end......
an end to domestic violence.
No more DV, means no children watching their parents fight.... No children learning that that is how you treat people and no children growing up to pass this on to the next generation...
I think that education and support for the younger generation is the key to this.
more needs to be invested into educating youth on healthy relationships, and more awareness needs to be developed around dating violence.
There also need to be more community supports for young people to turn to if they are affected by this to help break the cycle.
Hmmm... so I guess this is where it gets tricky....
nice idea and all...
I guess a really good start would be to have a training package for schools... or even a program deliverable in schools.....
there are a few out there... but as far as I know there isn't a lot going on in WA in this respect.
so I guess the possibilities are talking to the education department about their policies surrounding this and canvassing pollies about what can be done.
Or there's the develop your own program track.....
So here's what I'm going to do about it.....
* Call the education department to find out what is currently on offer.
* Talk to people in highly affected areas to find out what is on offer in a community setting.
* Research what programs have been implemented elsewhere.
* Research the issue.
* Write an opinion piece for ActNow on the issue
* Make an educational brochure that can potentially be given out in the community as an
educational resource.
* Canvass community groups/ schools that would be interested in using/giving out the brochure.
*Put together submission for the education minister on the issue and how schools could be dealing with it.
