I am an 18-year-old girl who, as some would say, is pretty normal, but as others would say, is crazy.
I grew up in Canberra and now live in Bathurst as I am studying to be a Paramedic at CSU. This is the career path I have wanted to follow since I turned 14. I think so I can make a difference in people's lives during a time of need.
I am a Scout and proud of it. Scouts has given me so many opportunities to help make a difference in the World. I achieved my Queen's Scout Award just after I turned 17. I am currently a Rover and a Cub Leader, working towards my BP award in which each of my award activities I have structured to make a difference in people's lives, both locally and internationally. I'm a Cub Leader because I love passing on my knowledge and skills and watching those kids develop into the leaders of tomorrow and also them developing as people.
Through Scouts I have travelled overseas to carry out a community service project in the Solomon Islands. We lived in the community for three weeks and I learnt so much about myself and the World. We helped refurbish the Red Cross Development School and set up the Rover section of Scouting. A major highlight of this trip was seeing two different cultures bind together when faced with troubles (security issues and flooding issues!) I can remember how hard we all worked during our flood crisis and the fun we had whilst we tried to save our tents from flooding. I will go back there.
My friends inspire me to be who I want to be and to do what I want to do. Not only do I want to be a Paramedic and help people, I also want to make a difference in other places, whether this be through education, awareness or going there.
I worked in the media whilst I was doing year 12. I was a spokesperson and was part of a three member youth team who did all the media work for Scouts ACT. I know how hard it is for youth to get their voices heard but I also know how supportive the media can be, especially for big youth projects.
As an Student Paramedic I am big into promoting health, especially mental health. I suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder and a form of separation anxiety. I would love to see changes in the areas of youth health and mental health and to see more services provided to rural and remote areas.
That's a bit about me... for now! :)
