Hi, I'm Alex!

I'm your average Asian-Australian who DOES NOT play pokemon 24/7...only on weekends after I finish all my homework! (lol, jokes...man, I can be so lame *le sigh!*)

What inspires me?
I am lucky enough to be surrounded by positivity and great people. Nice people inspire me to do nice things

Anyway, I've just completed a commerce degree. I've worked with actnow and inspire, done stuff for beyondblue, ALIV and ozGREEN (you must check out their websites!).

Currently working as an accountant *YAWN*...

So what makes me want to act now? I think society is pretty selfish and greedy. The world would probably be a better place with some kindness and genorosity...BUT I don't see society changing anytime soon! So I'm on a mission to start making people more aware about the world around us and the issues that face this planet! It's impossible for one person to change the world, but hopefully with people power, Australia can show the rest of the world that if we sustain our current lifestyles, the world's resources will all be consumed and humanity will eat itself up! The need for social change has never been greater...

Hmmmm...here are some of his favourite quotes (yes, they're quite random):

"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."
-Leo Buscaglia

"Remember, you can always find East by staring directly at the sun."
-Bart Simpson

Matilda: I became...
Hansel: What?
Matilda: Bulimic.
Derek Zoolander: You can read minds?
-Zoolander

Facebook conspiracy! - 13-07-2008 09:28 Last updated:

I was watching this video about Facebook and it's quite scary:

http://www.albumoftheday.com/facebook/

To summarise, the owners of facebook have all rights to everything we upload onto facebook. Even when we delete our account, EVERYTHING is saved in their servers.

If you become a big celebrity in 20 years time - Facebook can dig up photos of you in your youth - blind drunk/taking drugs/naked! and they have the rights to them!

Weapons for all? - 09-03-2008 08:55 Last updated:

haha, Meli's comment on funnelweb's opinion piece about "weapons for all" made me remember a quote from Mother Theresa:

"If all the money that is being spent on finding ways to kill people was used instead to feed them and house them, clothe them and educate them - how beautiful that would be. We are too often afraid of the  sacrifices we might have to make. But where there is true love, there is joy a peace."

Yes, it is a bit hippy...but I think the 1st part is so true.

Check out the military budgets of the top nations:
US: $623bn
China: $65bn
Russia: $50bn
France: $45bn
UK: $42.8bn
Japan: $41.75bn

Quite alot aye??? Just imagine if all that money went to fight poverty!!!

An issue a day keeps my laziness away - 25-01-2008 08:48 Last updated:

ok,

So there's 127 issue pages on the actnow site and I gotta be honest - I've probably only read about 10-20.

To continually expand my knowledge about the world, I plan to read an issue a day - they're usually quite short so we'll see if I can keep it up!...

I encourage you to as well!

I'm BACK!!! - 13-01-2008 09:14 Last updated:

So, I just returned from my 3 day adventure.

Over the past few weeks, I've had heaps of time to reflect on everything - my life, friends, goals, dreams! It's been great! I've realised that sometimes we unconsciously get so caught up in our daily lives we forget. We forget about the good in life, we forget about things we should appreciate, it's so easy to be thoughtless. But yea, It's been great to enjoy the beauty of nature!, chill out and get some head space =)

So yea, I've found the motivation to share with you all some of my stories and in particular, my action stories. So stay posted! and keep checking on "stories" ---->>>>>>

Summer Holiday Plans - 17-12-2007 06:21 Last updated:

So...for the past 2 weeks - I've been out nearly everyday hanging out with friends and *taking it easy*. So much free time!

Now that I've had a small break and recharged my batteries, I have some new found energy to take on some new action...and here are my plans for Summer Holidays:

1. Work on an actnow facebook application (even if it doesn't work). Oh, and maybe ask friends to spread the actnow word?
2. Somehow encourage my brother and his little hoodlums to take positive action
3. Finally finish some semi-complete videos that I've been making
4. Re-grow my vegie farm

That's all for now =P!
